Mycoplasma Reference Diagnostic Laboratory was established in 1965 as Mycoplasma laboratory within FAO Sheep Disease Laboratories. The Laboratory is responsible for making isolation, identification, molecular and serological diagnosis of Mycoplasma agents that create infection on animals especially sheep, goats, cattle and poultry using international methods in the country. Mycoplasma infection suspected samples are sent to our laboratory from 12 provinces, in the area of our responsibility of the institute, for isolation and identification. The laboratory also performs identification of isolated Mycoplasma sp. cultures, the confirmation of suspicious or positive blood sera, and typing of Mycoplasma sp. sent from the other institutes.
On the other hand, it produces hyper-immune serum and antigens essential for the diagnosis of some Mycoplasma diseases.
The Laboratory is accredited by TURKAK (Turkish Accreditation Agency) since the year 2012 according to Standard TS EN ISO/IEC 17025 and has passed re-accreditation audit in the year 2017
Mycoplasma Reference Diagnostic Laboratory, serving as a national reference laboratory throughout the country since 2005, was successfully completed the Pleuropneumonia (CBPP) OIE Twinning Project with Istituto Zooprofilattico Sperimentale dell'Abruzzo e del Molise Institute Italy of OIE Reference Laboratory, between 2015-2017. The applications made to the World Organization for Animal Health (OIE) to be an international reference laboratory on Contagious Caprine Pleuropneumonia (CCPP) and Poultry Mycoplasma infections are approved which makes the laboratory first international reference in Turkey.
