​​The diseases caused by helminths, arthropods and Protozoons in animals are diagnosed in Parasitology Laboratory.

A. DUTIES

The diseases caused by helminths, arthropods and Protozoons in animals are diagnosed by using standart tests of Office International Des Epizooties (OIE).

The diseases caused by parasites as Varroa destructor, Nosema apis/ceranae, Acarapis woodi, Braula coeca in honey bees and  pests as Galleria mellonella, Achroia grisella, Aethina tumida and parasitic acari Tropilaelaps (T. clareae, T. koenigerum, T. mercedesae)  in hives are diagnosed by using standart tests of Office International Des Epizooties (OIE).

As the  National Reference Laboratory, the conformation tests  for  parasitic diseases  are arranged with  the other National Veterinary Institutes.

The diagnosis of Dourine is performed in our laboratory according to the breeding stallions and mares for breeding Issuing Document regulated by the Our Ministry.

Training programs are arranged about the diagnosis of parasitic diseases of animals for veterinarians who work in other national veterinary institutes, field veterinarians, farmers and growers. And also counselling serve about parasitological diseases is given in commissions that were made by government.

B. SCOPE OF ACCREDITATION

Parasitology Laboratory was accreditated for Dourine as a result of the French Food Safety and Security Agency's observation (3-7 May 2004) and this was approved by Europian Commission.

Parasitology Laboratory was accreditated by TURKAK on 02.09.2005 according to ISO 17025 for Diagnosis of Dourine and Equine Piroplasmosis by Complement Fixation Technique (CFT), Diagnosis of Equine Piroplasmosis by Indirect Fluorescent Technique (IFAT), Identification of Echinococcus cysts from intermediate hosts, Identification of Echinococcus's adult forms from final hosts, Identification of  Varroa by direct diagnosis technique and In 2006, Diagnosis of  Equine Piroplasmosis with  Competitive ELISA (c-ELISA) and Diagnosis of Nosemosis with direct diagnosis and Giemsa staining in honeybees.

C. SCOPE OF NATIONAL  REFERENCE

Parasitology Laboratory is National Reference Laboratory for Dourine, Echinococcosis/Hydatidosis and Varroosis.

D. NATIONAL / INTERNATIONAL COOPERATION

Projects about parasitic diseases are conducted in Parasitology Laboratory and also  there has been a collaboration between the universities, institutes, and corporations as FAO.

Our Laboratory is also partner of twinning project between Turkey and Italy about West Nile diseases.
