Poultry Disease

At the Poultry Disease Diagnosis and Research Laboratory, diagnosis of bacterial, viral and micotic diseases of poultry is performed by using standard tests of World Organisation for Animal Health (OIE).

Poultry disease diagnosis laboratory is National Reference Laboratory for Newcastle, Gumboro (IBDV), Fowl typhoid, Pullorum diseases.

Our laboratory is responsible for the health control of breeding poultry holdings and hatcheries in provinces in its field of responsibility according to "The Regulation of Hatcheries and Breeding Poultry Holdings". If required our Institute takes part in commissions to inspect of technical and hygienic conditions of holdings already in operation in the same provinces

Diagnosis of notifiable diseases such as Avian Influenza and Newcastle Disease is performed by using both agent isolation-identification and molecular methods (RT-PCR, Real Time RT PCR).  Pathogenicity of Avian Influenza and Newcastle Disease (APMV-1) viruses isolated in our laboratory is determined by intravenous pathogenicity index (IVPI) and intracerebral pathogenicity index (ICPI) test.

Moreover, As a National Newcastle Disease Reference Laboratory, our laboratory confirms the test results of other regional Veterinary Control Institutes.

Diagnosis of Avian Mycoplasmosis (M. gallisepticum and M. synoviae) is also performed by agent isolation and PCR

With relation to the diagnosis of Avian Influenza and Newcastle Disease, our Laboratory aims to maintain the highest level of diagnostic quality by participating regularly in international ring tests annually organized by OIE, EU and FAO International Reference Laboratory.

A. DUTIES

1. DIAGNOSIS

Diagnosing of diseases caused by bacteria, viruses and fungi from pathological substances of dead or alive poultry that have been subject to necropsy examination.

Determining of antibodies developed against viruses and bacteria due to infection or vaccines in serum samples of poultry (chicken),

Determining of a suitable day for vaccination against Gumboro (Infectious Bursal Disease) disease at request.

2. CONTROL

All breeding holdings and hatcheries in the provinces under the responsibility of our institute are controlled for Salmonella Gallinarum /Pullorum / Enteritidis /Typhimurium and Mycoplasma gallisepticum/synoviae for two times a year according to the prevailing regulations since 1990

3. OTHER

Taking part in protocol inspections on imported Veterinary Biological Products (Vaccines, kits, etc.) relating to poultry animals and taking part in commissions concerning these inspections.

Our laboratory operates in the following subjects;

1- Performing Epidemiological surveillance,

2- Conducting research studies,

3- Arranging in-service training practices,

4- Organizing seminars and training programs suitable for poultry breeders and veterinary surgeons upon request.

B. SCOPE OF ACCREDITATION

Within the context of TS EN ISO/IEC 17025:2005, our laboratory has been accredited by TURKAK for the following subjects:

1- Determination of Newcastle Disease antibodies in chicken blood serum with ELISA,

2- Determination of Avian Influenza Virus antibodies in chicken blood serum with ELISA,

3- Detection of antibodies against Newcastle disease virus (Avian Paramyxovirus type I) in chicken blood serum with Haemagglutination Inhibition (HI) Test.

4- Determinatiom of Avian Influenza (AI) Matrix gen with Real Time RT-PCR
